A Pause to Behold the New Year
As a new year begins, I’ve been thinking about how often beauty appears subtly—right where we already are.
Recently, I was in the middle of the dinner and bedtime rush when a glimpse of color caught my eye through the window. I nearly missed it. A painted sky, glowing just long enough to be noticed. I stepped outside my front door just before it disappeared, grateful I paused long enough to take it in.
Moments like this have a way of re-centering me. They remind me that beauty doesn’t usually announce itself loudly. Instead, it often asks us to slow down, to notice, and to be present.
This is my hope for the year ahead:
to notice what’s fleeting, to stay present with beauty when it appears, and to create more artwork inspired by these lived moments.
When Beauty Bears Fruit
That same spirit of noticing found its way into one of my most recent paintings, Beauty Bears Fruit.
What began as a simple, citrus-inspired still life slowly became something more personal. As I painted, I found myself thinking about my three children—how each one carries their own light, personality, vibrancy, and way of moving through the world.
Three unique fruits.
Three vibrant colors.
Three distinct flavors.
A reminder to me that when what’s been given is nurtured with care, beauty grows and bears something good.
Art has a way of revealing meaning that’s sometimes harder to express with words alone. I’m grateful for paint and brushstrokes that allow stories to unfold slowly, layer by layer.
Fine art prints of Beauty Bears Fruit are now available for those who feel drawn to this piece and its story. Explore this new release here → Beauty Bears Fruit
In the Studio This Winter
As January unfolds, I’m intentionally taking a pause from social media to make space for creativity. This winter hibernation, of sorts, allows me to finish a few paintings already in progress and to give new ideas room to form without rush.
Lately, I’ve been exploring light, atmosphere, and the moments just before dusk. I love how the days end with painted skies and bring a golden glow to everything they touch. These winter weeks feel like an invitation to slow down and pay attention, both in life and in the studio. I look forward to sharing more about my upcoming works and projects when I return to socials.
An Invitation
If you’re reading this, I hope you’ll join me in this practice of noticing. Whether it’s a changing sky, a quiet morning, or a small moment that almost passes you by. May you find beauty waiting there.
Thank you for being here and for choosing to slow down and behold beauty alongside me.
With gratitude,
Blair
